GS1 Standards and Services
GS1 standards create a common foundation for business by uniquely identifying, accurately capturing and automatically sharing vital information about products, locations, assets and more. GS1 is the leading supplier of barcodes in Ghana and the world — our standards are the most widely used system of standards in the world.

Identify with GS1 keys
GS1 identification standards define unique identification codes — called GS1 identification keys — which may be used by an information system to refer unambiguously to a real-world entity such as a trade item, logistics unit, physical location, document, service relationship or other entity.
Capture data with barcodes & RFID
GS1 data capture standards include definitions of barcode and radio-frequency identification (RFID) data carriers which allow GS1 identification keys and supplementary data to be affixed directly to a physical object, and standards that specify consistent interfaces to readers, printers and other hardware and software components.
Share data with trading partners
GS1 standards for information sharing include data standards for master data, business transaction data and physical event data. Networks like the GDSN allow trade items to be shared, sourced and managed from supplier to seller. Discovery and trust standards help locate data and establish secure sharing conditions across a supply chain.
Save time and money
Our standards enable intelligent automation. Share information without thinking about it, reduce back-and-forth communications and get things done faster.
Be more accurate
When you reduce data entry, you reduce errors. For example, electronic invoicing can streamline financial processes by recording, paying and tracking transactions automatically.
Streamline traceability
Businesses can combine different GS1 standards to streamline business processes such as traceability — tracking items from assembly to sale, making it easy to receive orders and issue invoices so business runs smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions

A GS1 barcode is essentially a number represented by an image of varied widths of black bars on a white surface. The barcode is scanned by a scanner at the point of sale, each time the product is purchased at the store. The scanner then pulls up the information that is assigned to that particular barcode number - such as the company name, product information and price. Each sale is recorded, which assists with keeping accurate inventory data - making it easier for Trading Partners to notify you when they need more products to be sold.
